Antibiotics Do Not Heal Cough Children

There are still many parents who give antibiotics to treat coughs and colds. In fact, antibiotics do not cure the cough but instead slows the healing process.

Flu and coughs caused by viruses, and antibiotics cannot kill the virus. In the study in Italy proved that child who are sick cough and not given antibiotics actually healed quicker than a child who got antibiotics.

Such research is done to 305 child coughs. The research results were presented in the American College of Chest Physicians.

Chief Researcher, Fracesco de Blasio Saturday from the University of Bologna, said doctors often prescribe antibiotics for cough so that the parents of children are quiet.

"Whereas the effectiveness of antibiotics to treat coughs are very small due to influenza. Even antibiotics less effective than children who were not given antibiotics, "he said.

He explained that new antibiotics are prescribed if there is secondary bacterial infection such as pneumonia or inflammation. However users must also be controlled.

The use of antibiotics to treat coughs with no indication of an infection is not very precise and can be dangerous. Repeated antibiotics, let alone when it is known to be ineffective, not only can trigger an allergic reaction but also children so immune drug.
